Orkneyrolling Saga

The pool.
The scene of triumph and defeat, achievement and loss.
However tonight I managed to build a more measured and positive approach to off side problems with the help of a very skilled friend.

Watch and learn.

Slowing it down helped.
So did practising sculling, slowly, on the off side,
thinking about arm positioning,
bringing the blade back far enough,
engaging hip flick early enough.

In fact just watching it being done expertly was helpful.
Thank you!

(not the same roll! - digital cameras capture randomly timed images!)

I'm sure this saga will continue, indefinitely....

  1. It really is a saga, isn't it?! I think it doesn't help that we probably move our own goalposts. I used to be ecstatically happy just to be able to roll, but now I get all picky over how "laboured" it feels etc. And in the "easy" pool boats, I go home feeling invincible. In the "harder" ones, I start to question if I'm improving at all. And once I start over-analysing, it all goes downhill from there.

It's great reading your and NK's rolling chronicles and seeing your photos and videos. A real insight into others' learnings, and very helpful. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Thank you for your comments Pam. I agree with all you say. Its a real 'head' game.

I'm lucky to have NK around. Great to have another female paddler who just doesn't quit and throws herself at all opportunities.

Glad you enjoy our words and pictures....
